[WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SENSITIVE CONTENT]
As everyone knows, Chester Bennington passed away on the morning of July 20, 2017, the cause of death: suicide by hanging/asphyxiation [I WARNED YOU, THERE WILL BE SENSITIVE CONTENT].
Indeed, his death was a suicide, but there is ALWAYS a flood of conspiracy theorists who simply can’t accept that some things are straightforward. They invent absurd stories to convince themselves they’re fighting some holy war and that they’re always right. The arguments are always the same, like "don’t believe what the media says" or "it's all the fault of the Illuminati and Freemasons." And whenever a celebrity dies, they show up to claim the artist was killed by a nefarious group to silence them (always the same story—no creativity at all).
For example: "a famous died because they were going to expose a pedophilia ring," which has been claimed time and time again.
The Origin of the Theory
The theory originated on a website called Your News Wire, known for posting nonsensical conspiracy theories. The site claimed Chester was killed because he was going to expose a list of pedophiles, allegedly revealed by police officer Ed Winter.
How did Ed Winter know about this? If Ed saw the list, why didn’t he reveal the names? If he was going to deliver the list, why didn't he do it when he revealed its existence? It just doesn’t make sense. I don’t know how people still fall for this kind of thing.
Let’s debunk this!
Where is the primary source for this information? Where is the source of the officer’s testimony? IT DOESN’T EXIST. As I said, this site makes up theories to get clicks and money.
At no point did Ed Winter say Chester was murdered. There’s no source claiming that Winter confirmed a murder, meaning this is just a lie from conspiracy theorists.
There’s another version claiming that Chester was going to participate in a documentary about pedophilia to expose a child trafficking ring. But again, there are no primary, reliable sources for this version of the theory, only replications from conspiracy sites, showing the inconsistency of these theories. Some people claim he was going to participate in The Silent Children project, but Chester isn’t mentioned in the project, which further invalidates the theorists' arguments. There is an article on Reuters debunking the theory that he was involved in the documentary—click here to read the article.
(Another video frequently used by theorists is this one: YouTube Link, but there is no mention of Chester, Chris, or Linkin Park.)
There is no evidence that Chester was "fighting" against a pedophilia or child trafficking ring, nor is there any evidence that Chris Cornell was involved.
Political Agenda Behind the Theory
Apparently, this theory has political undertones and always accuses Democrats (or varies by blaming groups like Jews, communists, or the Illuminati), i.e., it's an extreme-right-wing theory. It gained traction during the American election when Donald Trump (a Republican, the Democrats' opponent) was trying to get re-elected. We know Trump and his team have a reputation for spreading false news.
Another Theory: John Podesta is Chester’s Father
There’s another theory (gaining more traction) that claims Chester is John Podesta's son (simply because they look alike).
Let’s break it down: just because Chester resembles Podesta doesn’t mean they’re father and son. Science explains that there’s a chance of 5 to 7 people in the world having similar faces.

John Podesta and Chester Bennington:
They do look alike, right? But they’re not related!
Why John Podesta Isn’t Chester’s Father
John was born in Chicago (northern USA), and Chester was born in Phoenix, Arizona (southern USA). John spent time around Chester's birth in the northern US and Washington, so it doesn’t make sense that he would be Chester's father. Moreover, there’s no evidence that he had any relationship with Susan Elaine Johnson (Chester's mother).
Chester is the son of Lee Russell Bennington, a police officer/detective, and Susan Elaine, a nurse.

How Did Chester Die?
Before talking about his death, let’s first understand Chester’s background. The son of Lee and Susan, he was born in Phoenix, Arizona, on March 20, 1976. He had three half-siblings: two brothers from his father's side and one sister from his mother's side.

In his childhood, Chester suffered from his parents' separation. He was sexually abused by someone close to him, later got into drugs, was bullied, was arrested, and saw many of his friends die, whether from drugs, accidents, or natural causes. He struggled with his first marriage's separation and lost a lot of money because of it.
In his last years, Chester fell into depression, with a trigger being an incident where he broke his ankle while playing basketball. He jumped and landed on a water bottle, forcing the band to cancel their entire US tour in 2015. Chester had to have surgery, which left him inactive from January until March/April. Those months of inactivity made him feel useless, and he eventually went back to drinking, which led to several rehab visits between 2015 and 2016.
With psychological/psychiatric treatment for depression and rehab due to his alcohol addiction, Chester’s mental health issues interfered with the band’s last album, One More Light. His absence from the studio forced the band to collaborate with other artists on the composition. (Chester only composed two songs: "Heavy" and "Halfway Right," both about his mental struggles.) This delay caused the album to be released a year later than planned (originally set for 2016, but Chester's problems pushed it back).
Due to everything that happened—his traumas and addictions—Chester sank into darkness. It reached a point where he couldn’t be left alone because he might have harmful, suicidal thoughts.
A video interview about his mental health:
Another interview about his depression:
Chester often expressed his depressive/emotional side in his songs, some with suicidal undertones. Songs like Crawling, Easier to Run, Given Up, Leave Out All the Rest, Heavy, and Halfway Right reflect his feelings.
His work in the band Dead by Sunrise is another example. The lyrics reflect his suicidal thoughts, problems with alcohol, and divorce. Just pay attention to the lyrics.
As mentioned, Chester was deeply affected after losing many friends. When his close friend Chris Cornell died, it devastated him.
Chester hanged/asphyxiated himself using a belt. Contrary to what many believe, there were no rib fractures. There was hemorrhaging in a muscle on the left side caused by asphyxiation, and there was a small amount of alcohol in his blood.
You can find more information in the autopsy:

Given Chester's life history and the autopsy, it was concluded that his death was suicide, not murder.
